Black Matter Earth
2014-6 | HDV | length tbc | English
The project consists of a three-screen video installation designed for art institutions and a single-channel film intended for cinema/festivals.
The script and production process will be documented to produce an artistic and academic publication, including essays from art and film scholars. Black Matter Earth is a post-romantic re- imagining and recasting of the female characterisations of the iconic films of British directors Michael Powell & Emeric Pressburger: Deborah Kerr as Sister Clodagh and Jean Simmons as Kanchi in Black Narcissus (1947), Kim Hunter as June in A Matter of Life and Death (1946), and Jennifer Jones as Hazel Woodus in Gone to Earth (1950).
