Join us as we launch the Local History Weekend with a special evening curated by the Narration Group.
From 7-8pm participate in a collective reading and discussion of Audre Lorde’s The Master’s Tools Will Never Dismantle the Master’s House. Alongside, watch a selection of short films that critically engage with the concept of PERIPHERY as navigated by people of colour and browse a selection of books courtesy of the Black Feminist Bookshop that have influenced and inspired the collective in the Reading Room, Gallery 3. Visitors are invited to add their own stories to a giant interactive map of the local area, whilst listening to a soundtrack scored by the group. Join artists and participants in the Kitchen for special cocktails mixed by SLG Flavour Cravers for the evening. www.southlondongallery.org/events/localhistoryweekendfriday/

Samia Malik – Art, Fashion and the Institution, 2019. wocireadinggroup.wordpress.com/2019/04/29/woci-reading-group-at-raven-row-open-house/ Performing Theory is a series of masterclasses that aim to present a wide variety of approaches to the artistic production of ideas in audio-visual form. We are inviting performance artists and moving image makers whose work (written, performed, filmed) manifests theoretical innovation. The latter part of the 20th century produced body of Anglo-American writing and work that are recognised today as canonical as with Hollis Frampton, Maya Deren, Peter Gidal for example. With this series we want to produce a sample of this kind of interplay between ideas and creating that are underway today. In so doing, we hope to open the field of play between theory and works to create new conversations.
Please join us for a Master Class with Michelle Williams Gamaker who will be discussing her work as well as addressing issues around the making of work in the contemporary art world. Performing Theory is conceived and convened by Prof. Rachel Moore (Goldsmiths) for CHASE in collaboration with BIMI and LUX. lux.org.uk/event/masterclass-performing-theory-with-michelle-williams-gamaker/ |
