The workshop will draw upon Dawood’s interest in the surreal, myth and ritual, and will consider the power of production stills in myth making and storytelling. All families have their own rituals, which contribute to making us part of our “clan”.
Each family will create a clan-identity through an assortment of props and costumes sourced by the artist. Once dressed as a family unit, you will be set the task of becoming a “clan-camera”, a type of living camera, with each member working together to create a collective filming vessel. You will be sent into the gallery to record an experimental film of the show.
You can do this any way you like; the only rule is that you cannot separate from the group! At the end of the workshop, each family will stage a group portrait that represents your experience as a clan-camera. The photo will be your memento and will double as a production still for the possible film that can be made from the footage.
