Scaling Copan

Through our sensory experiments (Sensitising) with Lygia Clark’s concepts of the self and other by means of relational objects, we were led to the creation and performance of our own live event, in which we scaled the length of the 22nd floor of Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer’s modernist Copan building (Edificio Copan), a 140-metre, 38-storey concrete residential building in the heart of São Paulo. 

In this process, we moved beyond Lygia’s body-object relationship and into an exploration of our sensing bodies in relation to the spatial and architectural environment of São Paulo.
